Start Here: The Export Process Overview
Every export starts with an IEC code and an AD Code linked to ICEGATE. You also need a valid GST registration and ideally an LUT bond so you can export without paying IGST upfront. Once these are in place, you prepare your Commercial Invoice and Packing List, book freight, and file a Shipping Bill on ICEGATE.
Customs examines the shipment if needed, issues a Let Export Order (LEO), and your cargo is loaded onto the vessel or aircraft. After shipment, you submit proof of export to claim GST refunds or duty drawback. The entire timeline from order to payment can range from 7 days (air freight to UAE) to 45 days (sea freight to Europe with L/C payment terms).
